Bring New Life to Outdoor Furniture!!!!
My husband was given these pieces of outdoor furniture by a friend so we decided to bring them back to life with a fresh coat of paint and new cushions.
SUPPLIES:
I used Forsyth Coral and Solid Aqua both are indoor/ outdoor fabric from Warehouse Fabrics, plus a 4″ thick foam from Betty’s Fabric Gallery.
PROCEDURE:
First step in adding new life to this outdoor furniture was to paint them with an exterior paint. Next step was to measure the furniture sitting area of the chairs and cut the foam to match.
Once I cut the foam to match my seat, I then placed the foam on the fabric and traced off the pattern adding 1/2″ all the way around. Make sure to cut a top and bottom.
Next measure the side of the foam and cut your fabric 1″ wider than the thickness of the foam. This will give you 1/2″ seam allowance.
My cushion thickness was 4″ thick so when I cut my box area I cut enough of the 5″ wide for the front and sides. The back side where I will place my zipper was cut differently.
I cut two pieces 3″ wide so that when I placed my zipper and side seams I would also end up with 4″ thickness.
I wanted to have a contrast fabric for my piping cord so I cut 2″ strips of Solid Aqua and made my piping.
Next place the piping on the top piece of fabric that was cut and also add piping to the bottom piece of fabric. Make sure to clip the edges as you attach to the corners, this helps it to lay better.
Last step in creating your cushions is to sew the box to the top and the bottom. Take the time to pin your fabric so the corners will align correctly.
This is the finished product! As you can see I also made 24″ pillows for the backs.
Now that you see how easy it is to add something beautiful to your deck, get busy!! Just in time for my favorite time of the year.
Happy sewing!!
