How to recover a chair cushion!
During this blog, I will demonstrate how to recover your old worn out chair cushions!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
For this blog I used approximately 2 and a half yards of Softknit BK Aegean, 3/4 yard of zipper and a slide.
PROCEDURE:
First step in creating a new cover for your chair cushion is to measure your cushion. Width, Length, and Depth. This cushion measured 22inches wide by 24″ length by 5″ deep.
I usually just measure the existing cushion but this time I took apart all the pieces and cut according to the pieces. While cutting your pieces make sure to keep all the pieces going the same direction to keep from having shaded areas!
Once all the pieces have been cut, I like to start sewing the zipper first. The zipper area of the box area of the cushion needs to be two pieces cut 3 and a half inches wide by 23 inches long. First baste stitch the face together of the zipper area. Then press the seam open with fingers and pin down the zipper coil face down onto the fabric seam. Use a zipper foot to attach the zipper. Next take a seam ripper a hold of the baste stitch and you have your zipper finished.
Now stitch together the box area which includes the zipper section and another long piece which has been cut 69″ long by 6″ wide.
Once you have finished creating your box area it is time to attach the box to the seat area of the cushion.
As seen in this photo, take your time and pin the box area to the seat area before you try to sew the two sections together.
Now sew the sections together then repeat the pining and sewing again to place the other seat section together with the box section. Hint: make sure to unzip the zipper about eight inches to ensure an opening when you have completely finish the sewing.
This is a photo of the finished seat cushion plus a seat back which was created the same way but has a stuffed form inside the cushion.
Now that you know how to recover your older cushions its your turn to try it!!
Happy sewing until next time!
