During this blog, I will demonstrate how to make this chair pad!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

I used approximately two yards of this beautiful fuchsia and white quatrefoil to make three chair pads.

PROCEDURE:

A customer brought in three chair pads that needed replace.

The chair pads are used for a classroom so the teacher wanted fun and bright colors used. So we did away with these black and white ones and changed them to fuchsia and white. Great change!

After taking the existing pad apart I used it for my pattern.  Cutting two pieces. A top and a bottom for each chair pad.

Next I cut two ties per chair pad each measuring three and a half inches wide by forty-five inches long.

I took every piece that I have cut out to the serger.

The existing chair pad had elastic in the ties which I think is a great idea. So I decided to add the elastic to the new chair pad ties.  I first folded the fabric for the ties in half and measured five and three-fourth inches and marked both sides of the fabric.

Next I measured a piece of elastic eight inches long and cut it.

Start sewing the chair ties face sides together as shown in the photo. Make sure to close one end of the tie.

While you are sewing the ties face side down, once you get to the mark you made earlier place the elastic and stitch it down. Before you continue to sew the elastic pull the piece of elastic to the other mark that you made earlier and then sew the elastic down. Continue to hold the elastic tight until you reach the end of the piece of elastic.

Turn the chair tie right side out.

On the right side of the fabric top stitch the elastic down on each end of it as shown in the photo.

Close up the remaining end by folding the raw edge inside and stitch.

Now is the time to make your chair pad. Measure two and a half inches from each corner on the back of the cushion and place your ties.  Sew from one chair tie around the perimeter of the cushion to the other chair tie making sure to put extra stitching on the tie area for stability.

Your cushion looks like this when you finish sewing the perimeter from one tie to the next. At the gap turn your cushion right side out smoothing all the edges. Put your stuffing or foam inside.

Make sure to pin together the gap as shown in the photo.
