Let’s make a costume for an Easter Pageant play!
During this blog, I will demonstrate how to make this pageant robe used during our Easter play at church.
SUPPLIES:
I used 2 and a half yards of Dull Polyester Satin #8 Merlot.
PROCEDURE:
For this costume I used a pattern from Simplicity #4795. First step in creating this costume is to trim your pattern pieces. The fabric used is Dull Polyester Satin #8 and let me say it is very easy to work with.
This particular robe consist of two pattern pieces. The tunic pattern needs to be cut on the fold as pictured. You will cut two pieces on the fold for the tunic and then cut the sleeves (two pieces also).
These show the cuts you will need to make this particular robe.
To start your sewing, you will need to match your shoulder notches of the front tunic and back tunic.
Next, it is time to attach you sleeves. Make sure to pin face sides together at the appropriate notches and sew into place.
Once you have your sleeves attached it will be time to sew up the side seams. To make sure the garment meets under the arm correctly, start pinning at the armpit area and work your way to the hem.
Now, serge all the raw edges. This includes the sleeves, hem and neck area.
This photo shows that the hems on the sleeves and garment bottom being pinned and ready to straight stitch to create the finished garment. You will also need to pin and hem the neck line.
Now that you know how easy it is to create costumes next time you can help sew those costumes for the actors in your life.
Happy sewing everyone!
