Let’s make a stuffed pillow!
During this blog, I will demonstrate how to make this beautiful stuffed pillow!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
I used approximately one yard of Lucerne Cognac, two yards of piping cord #3 and a bag of stuffing.
PROCEDURE:
The first step in creating this beautiful pillow was to determine what size of pillow my customer wanted. We decided on an 18″ pillow so I cut two pieces at 19″ each.
In this photo I am cutting the 19 inch square of fabric.
Next mark off for the cord cover. I cut this on the bias which makes the cord more pliable for turning the corners.
Next take the strips of bias fabric and sew together until you have a continuous strip at least two yards long.
Now while using a zipper foot attachment take the cotton welt and cover with the bias strip, as shown in the photo.
Some fabric tends to unravel so I usually will take my pillow squares and serge the edges.
Once you have the edges serged then take the covered cord and attach to the face of one of the pillow squares. I have used a half inch seam allowance for this step.
As you get to the corners of the pillow cut slits in the covered cord as shown in the photo. Make sure not to cut into the seam.
Next, place the pillow squares face to face. Pin the corners together as shown.
Hopefully you can see the pins I have placed in the fabric, this is where I need to leave not sewn so I will be able to stuff the pillow form once it has been sewn together. I try to leave at least a six inch section.
Starting at the pin straight stitch around the perimeter of the pillow using a half inch seam allowance until you reach the other pin.
Turn your pillow right side out and start stuffing. I like to overstuff pillows making sure to put plenty of stuffing in the corners.
Once you have the pillow stuffed it is time to sew the opening closed.
I use a needle and thread to close. Some people will use their sewing machine which is fine also.
Now you know how to make this beautiful over stuffed pillow!
Happy sewing until next time!
