Valentine pocket pillow

IMG_0115Hello there! Today I’m going to share a sweet Valentine’s project that I made for my little one. This is for my daughter, but I’m sure that any recipient would love to receive this, with a handmade (or not!) Valentine inside. I’m guessing your valentine might appreciate a gift card for coffee, or maybe a burger? 😉

Here’s what you’ll need:

arrowbittersweetslub-m7ozcottonnaturaltreepillow-67781/4 yard of Arrow Bittersweet/ Slub, 1/4 yard of 7 oz. Cotton Duck Natural, and the filler of your choice.

Cut out two pieces of the cotton duck, 10″ x 10″ each.

IMG_9898Then cut out a 6″ x 13″ piece of the Arrow Bittersweet.

We’re going to work on the pocket first.

IMG_9899Fold it, right sides together, lengthwise.

Sew almost all the way around it, leaving a few inches (3″-4″) open so you can turn it right-side out.

Once you turn the pocket right-side out, press.

Next, decide where to attach the pocket onto the front of the pillow. I decided to sew the pocket a bit lower on the pillow, but still centered width-wise. I measured 2″ from each side and from the bottom.

IMG_9909I sewed a double stitch around three sides (bottom, left & right, of course!) for stability.

Pin around the edges, but make sure to ‘remind’ yourself to leave an opening of 4”-5”. That is why I double pinned the two spots on the bottom. Go ahead & sew all but your opening.

IMG_9913Once the two pieces have been sewn together, turn right-side out, pressing the corners out well.

Stuff with filler, then hand sew closed.

I think this is a fun project that you could change up a little for a tooth fairy pillow. Oh, and I just love the idea of whipping up a simple tote bag in that arrow bittersweet! How fun would that be?
