Fabric Used

So we got brave and my husband and I tried another project. The fabric on Mom’s couch was getting dirty and when I checked it was also getting stretched, pilled, and thread bare in some spots. Looking closer the backing was also crumbling. Thought this would be MUCH easier than the small swivel rockers. Wrong, it was like three chairs! There were surprisingly a lot of pieces. Especially in the back cushions, 6-8 pieces in each section. I love the memories of my Mom’s couch. All the conversations, snacks. etc. I also always liked it for the comfort sake. I found a tag in it. It is 27 years old. I read that if you are going to do the work of reupholstering if the piece is 15 - 20 years old and it is still in one piece it will probably stay that way. The majority of newer stuff isn’t built to last. So this is material is shown online as horizontal stripes but I railroaded the fabric and used them vertical as I found a slight nap in the fabric. This direction made the coloring more uniform and I made sure all were cut the same direction. It is surprising how the color changed if it was the opposite direction because you can barely fell the nap. I also went vertical because I thought horizontal stripes on the back cushions might not always stay perfectly horizontal over time and use. The colors in this fabric are just great! It is a fabric that is able to blend with so many other colors well, which was the situation we had in this room. You can't really see by the photo but the colors go perfectly with my Mom's retro tulip lamps. I've sent pics to my family. They all love the rich color and can't believe it's the same couch.
