Our story began in 1984, when Larry and Betty Whitehead turned Betty's love of sewing into a small-town business with big heart. With determination and a $4,000 investment in their neighbor's house, they founded what was then known as Betty's Sewing Basket. Built on Betty's creativity and Larry's dedication, the business quickly became a cornerstone of our community.
Their daughter Tanya started working here at just 13 years old, learning the ropes while nurturing a vision for the future. She designed and launched BestFabricStore.com, helping transform a local sewing shop into an international resource for fabric, trim, and custom-sewn home décor—all from our small country town of just 4,500 people. Tanya has been managing the company since 2000, pouring her heart into every detail of its growth.
In 2013, Tanya's husband Dann joined the business "temporarily", LOL. A former 82nd Airborne Paratrooper and Master Automotive Technician, he brought with him a wealth of experience, a strong work ethic, and a deep commitment to family. By 2019, Dann and Tanya officially purchased the company and began a new chapter together as owners.
With a 34,000 square foot warehouse, a brick-and-mortar home store, and a full-service custom sewing workroom, we've come a long way from that old house. But at our core, we're still the same family-focused business. Over the years, everyone from our five children to nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, siblings, and longtime employees (who feel like family) have pitched in to help build what Best Fabric Store is today.
This business has blessed our family in countless ways — not just through income, but through the memories and connections it has created. It is our honor and privilege to serve you, our customers, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our journey.
