Happy decorating everyone. Hope this project can inspire everyone to add some beauty to their outdoor area.

A good friend of mine wanted to add pop to an outdoor area that was rather dull so we added 1″ bright cushions to her outside dining area. The result was beautiful. The fabric used was Wyken Stripe Scarlet Indoor/Outdoor Fabric from warehousefabricsinc.com.

Instructions

This is what I did to create the cushions. The chairs used are 18.75″ width at back x 20.25″ width at front x 19″ in length. The first thing I did was create a pattern using Hanes Eclipse Black Out 3-Pass Drapery Lining from warehousefabricsinc.com. Since I use a seam allowance of 5/8″ the pattern was cut 20″ x 21.50″ x 20.25″.

Next step, cut out all chair bottoms. Fold fabric in half to ensure face of fabric is to the inside. Lay the pattern created on top and cut. This will do one chair.

In the demonstration, I placed a zipper in the chair cushion. The zipper used is a Utility Zipper. Place two pieces of cut fabric, faces together and do a baste stitch using a 5/8″ seam allowance. Next press open the seam and place a zipper centered face down on this seam. Pin into place then using a zipper foot stitch zipper into place.

Now that the zipper is complete, all that is left is sewing the sides together. Once again, turn the fabric face sides together and stitch around the three remaining sides.

To finish this project all we need now is to cut out the foam and insert it into the forms the were created. Cut the foam the size needed for chair without seam allowance.
