PROCEDURE:

I wanted to create a different look for my living room than the grommet top drapes so I decided on making drapes with wooden ring clips. I think they turned out great!

The first step in any drapery job is to measure for the finished length. I measured from the clip on the wooden ring to within a half inch from the floor. This gave me the length in which my drapes should be finished. Next, I added 6 extra inches to the bottom length for my hem and an extra half inch to the top for my seam allowance at the top.

Next, I turned up six inches at the bottom, pressed it, them folded and sewed to create a three inch hem.

I did the same procedure with the decorative fabric.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  This photo shows me sewing the top of both fabrics together. With face fabrics toward each other start sewing. Notice that the lining is placed about 2 inches from the edge of the decorative fabric. This is because most decorative fabrics will be wider than the lining fabric. That is the case with my chosen fabric. Since I allowed a half inch for seam allowance I will make sure my seam is a half inch from the fabric edge.

Once my seam is finished, I turned my fabric so both face fabrics are to the outside.

The last step is to hem the sides of the drapes. I measured three inches, pressed, then folded as shown in these photos. Then blind stitch your side hems and you are finished!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  All that need doing now is to make another panel and I am finished. These turned out so cute and fun for my living room.

Now you know how to make these drapes so let’s get sewing. Happy sewing until next time.
