How ’bout that? A hat!

From time to time, I like to write about a sewing project that you might not think of when you think of home decorator fabrics. So how about a hat? I bet that no matter what kind of sewing you do, you probably haven’t considered a hat.

Poor hats. Nobody really wears them anymore. Maybe a knitted winter cap or a baseball hat, but as regular accessories, they’ve sort of fallen out of favor. I, for one, always feel a little too obvious in a hat. A little uncomfortable. And I’m trying to change that.

One day, I came across etsy.com seller McHats and thought, “What a wonderful sewing project! Who knew I could just whip up a hat?” And so I did.

Small houndstooth chocolate - SMHCHN

Poly silk dupioni - POIDAN

Buckram

Shank button
I chose this chocolate brown hounds tooth fabric because it’s a classic. It’s lined with a silky brown and accentuated with a light blue ribbon on the inside. I used a quarter-yard of each fabric. I made a self-covered button with a leftover in my button stash. I have found the stabilizer buckram in chain fabric stores in the home decor department.

The pattern for this hat and many others can be found at McHats on etsy.com. Featured is the adult newsboy hat.
