How to recover an existing cushion!
Have you ever had a cushion that had seen better days? During this blog, I will take you step by step in making a new cover using an existing pattern from an older used cushion.
SUPPLIES:
I used Luxury Denton to recover this cushion.
PROCEDURE:
The first step in creating this redo was to take out all the existing seams, cord, and zipper.
Then take your fabric in which all the seams have been removed and press it flat. Next cut out all the pattern pieces. I cut two pieces a top and a bottom.
The existing cushion had cord so I cut out some fabric to recover it also.
Since this beautiful fabric does fray some I took it to my serger and serged all the edges.
This cushion has round edges so I placed pleats at the exact same spots as my previous cushion had.
Place your cord on the face fabric with the edges matching.
The zipper used during this cushion is a metal utility zipper which means you have to create stays for the ends of the zipper so that the zipper head does not come off. Notice the stays I made are created with a non fraying material.
Now I took the cushion to the ironing board and pressed under 5/8″ seam for the zipper to attach too.
Pin the zipper to the pressed fold and stitch down.
The last step in creating this cushion was to stitch down the corners of the zipper and cushion.
Look how pretty my new cushion looks now!!!
Now take an older cushion that needs new life and try it yourself. If you have a pattern to go by it can be easy.
Happy sewing!!
