For this casserole carrier I used 5/8 yard each of the fabrics plus 2 and 1/2 yards of mini pom pom fringe.
First step in creating this unique casserole carrier is to cut the two fabrics into 22 inch squares.
This photo illustrates the two fabrics cut into 22″ squares. The fabric I chose are great for holiday gatherings. The red is a high performance flame resistant fabric ( http://warehousefabricsinc.com/AMERED.html), fantastic for this kind of craft.
Next, choose the fabric you want to be your focal fabric. I chose Holiday Folks Holiday http://warehousefabricsinc.com/HOYFHOY.html. Take your trim and sew it unto the face fabric as illustrated in the photo. You will sew the trim around the perimeter of the face fabric.
Now, take your lining fabric and the face fabric which you have added your trim to and sew right sides (face) together. Make sure to leave an opening so you can turn your fabrics once it has been sewn.
This photo illustrates pulling your fabrics through the small opening so it can be turned right side out.
Once you have it turned, take the time to press with a iron. Then sew a top stitch around the entire perimeter to hide the opening and make it uniform.
Now, it is time to take those strips you cut out 4″ wide and stitch them. Take your 4″ by 32″ and fold it length ways right sides together and stitch. Do the same with the smaller pieces.
Press the seam open, then turn right side out. Tuck your ends in on all the strips so they will look finished.
Take your strips and place them just like the photo. Sew the ends down.
Below, I am demonstrating how to use the carrier. First place your casserole dish under the long strip and start placing the long strip through the smaller strips.
This is a wonderful gift for anyone that likes to carry food to gatherings!!!
Happy sewing until next time!
