During this blog, I will demonstrate how to make this large bolster pillow for the bed!

For this bolster pillow I used approximately 3/4 yards of Alessandro Glacier, 1/4 yard of Crocodile Velvet Baby Blue, leftover covered cord approximately three yards plus one and a half yards of Malaga trim 686.

PROCEDURE:

To make this bolster I started by spray gluing three (14″long) bolsters together to make a 42″ long bolster. The three bolsters measured 8″ in diameter.

These photos show the eight inch by fourteen inch bolsters glued together.

Next take two 10 inch diameter circles of fabric and spray glue to the end of the bolster. You will need to do this before you start sewing the remaining pieces of the bolster because it takes a while for the glue to dry.

This is how the ends of the bolster should look.

Now cut the main piece of fabric to cover the bolster. My main fabric is Alessandro Glacier. Since my bolster measures 26 inches around by 42 inches long, I cut the fabric 27 inches by 43 inches.

I am going to introduce all of the fabrics that I have used for the decorative pillows into making this bolster. First I cut out (2) 5.5 inch wide by 27 inch strips of Crocodile Baby blue velvet. Next I added covered cord out of the Hocus Pocus Dove fabric. I cut (4) 27 inch long pieces of the cord. As shown in the photo, just add the piped cord to the edge of each piece of velvet fabric face side down.

I want the decorative strips to be placed the same width from both ends of the bolster. To do this I measured 6 inches from each end of the bolster and sewed down the decorative strips.

This photo shows the actual attachment of the decorative strips. Sew down each side of the strips using the zipper foot.

Now take the main fabric and turn it under one half inch and straight stitch it down as shown in the photo. Do this to both edges of the main fabric.

TheĀ  next step is to sew the decorative trim to the edge of the main fabric.

Now it is time to insert the bolster pillow form.

Hint: When adding the foam bolster to the pillow cover that you have made it makes it easier to use a plastic bag to insert the form into the cover. Just place the long bolster inside a garbage bag and pull it inside the pillow cover. You may have to tear the garbage bag to remove once you have your form inside the pillow cover.
