Let’s make a new outdoor cushion!

  During this blog, I will demonstrate how to create this beautiful cushion for outdoor furniture!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I used approximately 2 and a half yards of Sundeck Cherry Indoor/Outdoor fabric, 30″ of zipper coil, a zipper slide and approximately 4 yards of outdoor cord.

 

 

 

 

PROCEDURE:

 

First I measured my piece of foam that I was going to recover.

  This cushion measures 28″ by 30″ so I cut out my fabric 29″ by 31″.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Serge around the edge of the fabric to ensure it will not ravel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I then cut out a two inch wide strip the length of the diameter of the cushion.

  With the two inch strip create your piping for the cushion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  For this type of cushion there needs to be pleats made at each corner. The photo shows the pleat I am talking about.

 

After folding and creating the pleat I took my piping that I made a little earlier and attached to one of the 29″ by 31″ pieces of fabric.

 

 

 

  Now attached one side of the zipper as close as possible to the piping.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Next start pining the other side of the zipper to the last piece of 29″ by 31″ fabric. To do this I first had to create a folded edge to place the zipper. I folded the edge 3/4″ and placed the zipper back an 1/8″ from the edge as shown in the photo. This helps to conceal the zipper once it is zipped.

 

 

 

 

 

  Next sew the two pieces of fabric face sides together making sure to leave at least 6″ of the zipper not zipped so you will be able to turn the fabric inside out. Make sure to pin the pleats together before you start to sew so that they line up properly.
