Let’s make over a bedroom bench!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

During this blog, I will show you how to take this bench and change the looks completely!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

I used approximately two yards of Flynn Flattery which is a soft velvety fabric. I also used a four inch thick piece of foam and a three inch thick piece of foam.

PROCEDURE:

I found this bedroom bench at a yard sale for $10.00 and knew I wanted it because the legs would have cost that for each one of them. I thought that maybe also all I had to do was recover it but that was not going to work for my bedroom. Once I placed the bench at the foot of my bed I realized it was going to be too small.

I completely striped it of all the material and decided I would also take the arms off the bench. The photo to the left shows what I started with.

I had a small piece of two inch of foam that I placed in the center of the wooden piece.

Next I took some quilt batting and covered the foam and wood.

In my workroom I had so many small pieces of four inch foam that I glued together to make the bottom piece of foam then I added a three inch piece of foam on top of that.

Sometimes it helps to be a pack rat! LOL!

Next I took the quilt batting once more and covered the foam and wood, as shown in the photo.

Then it was time to add some fabric. I placed the bench upside down on by two yards of fabric and outlined the bench. Next as shown in the photo I made two lines at each corner extending from the corner of the bench.

I then cut the corners out.

Now take the corners and stitch it together as shown in the photo. Do this to each corner.

Once you have all the corners sewn then flip the fabric right side out.

Its time to add the fabric to the bench. It should fit like a glove.

Pull the fabric tight and staple down all the way around the bench bottom.

The best way to finish a bench or chair bottom is to add a dust cover just as I did in the photo.

Now place the legs back onto the bench!
