Nursing cover

This nursing cover made with cherub fabric will give your little angel some privacy while dining. It’s quick and really easy to make.

It is unlined, so it won’t get too stuffy under there, and has an adjustable neck strap. Plus there’s boning to pop the cover out at the neck so you can see your little precious hands-free.

I also use nursing covers like these when pumping at work for extra privacy.

Angel Toile - ANEPOK

D-rings (2)

Boning
1 yard of fabric and two D-rings, plus 15″ piece of boning.

The pattern

You’ll cut the following rectangles from your fabric (one each):
Front: 25″x35″
Long strap: 4″x25″
Short strap: 4″x7″

The process

I highly recommend you wash your fabric first to preshrink it.

Then cut out the pieces as described above.

You’ll make both straps the same. I’m demonstrating on the small one, but apply these steps to the long one, too.

First, wrong-side up, turn under the short edges a quarter-inch and press.

(Sorry this fabric blends into the ironing board so much!)

Then fold in half lengthwise and press.

Fold each of those raw long edges into the center to meet at the crease you made in the step above. Press. Now all raw edges are encased.
Sew along the short edges and the long open edge.
Thread your D-rings through the small strap and secure by sewing just under the rings.
Now take your big piece of fabric and hem the sides using a small (maybe 1/4″) hem. Fold under 1/4 inch, press, then fold over again. Press and sew.
Hem the bottom as above, but with a slightly larger seam allowance if desired.
Finally, hem the top but with a 3/4″ seam allowance. You’ll need to insert the boning as shown at left. Push the boning all the way toward the center of the cover.
Determine when your boning is centered by measuring each end of the cover that doesn’t have boning to see that they are about the same.
You’ll attach the straps now, and this will keep your boning in place. Attach one strap on either side of the boning and secure by sewing to the inside top edge of the cover.
I sewed a li’l rectangle. Do the other strap, too, and then run the long strap through the D-rings on the small strap.

You’re done! Now ring the dinner bell for baby and nurse with confidence wherever you are.
